Today's Forecast
Updated @0500: Snow. High near 36. Light southeast wind becoming south 8 to 13 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 8 to 14 inches possible.Short-Term Weather Outlook
Updated @0500: Weather Discussion: Scattered showers are still in place across the region early this afternoon while snow levels are hanging around lake level. Shower coverage should decrease a little more this afternoon although over the higher terrain near the crest, snowy conditions may persist. Lower elevation areas should see some rain showers this afternoon as snow levels continue to climb. After a brief break in the action this evening, steady precipitation is forecast to spread across the region again around midnight tonight from the next larger/stronger storm system which is nearing the state from the west this afternoon. Once rain/snow develops, periods of rain/snow should persist all day tomorrow with snowfall totals across the higher terrain likely more than the previous system even as the bulk of the precipitation impacts the Central State. Snow levels do look like they will be a little higher with this system (~7000ft). Over a foot of near snow is likely above 7000ft feet tomorrow. Showers will begin winding down by tomorrow night with only a few lingering showers Saturday morning but still likely producing a couple of inches of snow across the region. The low is forecast to drop south Saturday afternoon and weaken allowing high pressure to build inland heading into Sunday. Forecast models then have the storm track to lift northward into the Pacific Northwest. With this scenario, most storm activity should stay along the North Coast and in Oregon but models have been hinting at it dropping a little further south bringing a chance of some rain & snow to the region midweek.Snow Stats

The data for this real-time snow and weather report is obtained
directly from the snow weather plots at Kirkwood Mountain Resort and the
surrounding areas. Snow totals and snow accumulation are consistently 15 to 20%
more than reported as a result of wind, micro squalls and snow loading. Weather
patterns at Kirkwood Mountain Resort are exceedingly difficult to predict – when
venturing into the mountain, be prepared for rapid, dramatic weather
changes.
