Today's Forecast
Updated @1600: Tonight, Snow showers. Low around 28. South wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible.Short-Term Weather Outlook
Updated @0500: Weather Discussion: A large low pressure system spinning off of the coast will spread bands of moisture across the Lake Tahoe Basin this afternoon and overnight. Currently, snow levels are near 7000ft while most of the precipitation is along the crest. Look for more widespread rain and snow this afternoon while southerly winds increase. Eventually by tonight, snow levels will drop to below lake level allowing the entire region to get periods of snow with several more inches likely. Occasional snow should last into the first half of tomorrow before the system slides further east. This is only storm #1 however as the next storm is right on the current ones heels. A larger, storm #2, is then forecast to take a more southern track into Central California on Friday although the basin still looks to get a heavy dose of rain & snow throughout the day (over a foot in the higher terrain). Precipitation will finally wind down Friday night with a chance of some lingering snow showers on Saturday. The storm track is then forecast to lift northward on Sunday and into early next week although it appears it will still stay somewhat close to Northern California, hinting at a slight chance for some light precipitation. Amounts will greatly depend on if this storm track drops a little further south over the region or if it stays around the CA/OR border but either way it never looks to become too cold.Snow Stats

The data for this real-time snow and weather report is obtained
directly from the snow weather plots at Kirkwood Mountain Resort and the
surrounding areas. Snow totals and snow accumulation are consistently 15 to 20%
more than reported as a result of wind, micro squalls and snow loading. Weather
patterns at Kirkwood Mountain Resort are exceedingly difficult to predict – when
venturing into the mountain, be prepared for rapid, dramatic weather
changes.
